We have another week of fights booked and we are doing things a bit differently this time. Because of the last minute changes after the “brawl” backstage, we scrapped a lot of predictions. So today, we’ll just add some social media commentary and fight results. Enjoy!
EARLY PRELIMS (ESPN+, 3pm MST)
Yohan Lainesse Def. Darian Weeks via Split Decision
I think many fans watching were confused by this decision. Even with a split after two rounds, it seems Lainesse was far from havinga chance to win the third round. He shuffled on the outside and ran away for most of the round. I thought I may have been the only one, but #MMATwitter confirmed that the judges got it wrong.
Elise Reed Def. Melissa Martinez via Unanimous Decision
The fight started off looking pretty even. Then Reed dropped Martínez. From there, it just looked uneven. For me, you could tell one has fought in the UFC before and one was a newbie. But it went the distance before Reed took the win.
Alateng Heili Def. Chad Anheliger via Unanimous Decision
I think I just found a new fighter to watch. AlatengHeili (Alateng Heili) showed flash and power.
Norma Dumont Def. Danyelle Wolf via Unanimous
PRELIMINARY CARD (ESPN NEWS & ESPN+, 5pm MST)
Chris Barnett Def. Jake Collier via TKO
Denis Tiuliulin Def. Jamie Pickett via TKO
Jailton Almeida Def. Anton Turkalj via Submission
Julian Erosa Def. Hakeem Dawodu via Unanimous Decision
MAIN CARD (ESPN+ PPV, 7pm ET)
Johnny Walker Def. Ion Cutelaba via Submission
Irene Aldana Def. Macy Chiasson via TKO
With one of the craziest come from behind wins, outside of Chris Barnett earlier, Irene Aldana throw a Hail Mary heel kick to the liver, from the ground, to get a TKO win against Macy Chiasson.
Daniel Rodriguez Def. Li Jingliang via (Robbery) Split Decision
Honestly, this was a terrible decision by the judges. I respect D-Rob, but the fight was a split decision AT WORST, still in favor of Li Jingliang. Once this fight is available on YouTube or whatever streaming service, I hope I remember to post it here to support my statements. This was not a D-Rob win.
Khamzat Chimaev Def. Kevin Holland via (Steamrolling) Submission
Did you see this fight? I barely did. I mean, I blinked and it was done…
Nate Diaz Def. Tony Ferguson via Submission
A good ending to a good card. Two UFC OGs facing off for what may be, and should be, their last time in the octagon. Diaz had his way, for the most part, against Ferguson. It wasn’t really close in my eyes. Ferguson seemed to be just about done in the UFC and should’ve retired at the end of the bout. Diaz completed his contract and, although there was a change in the card lineup, Diaz did not disappoint no matter the opponent. A good UFC night overall.
