What’s going down, Phoenix!? 2019 is off to a quick start and we’re already into February. Kicking off this first week in February, we’re bring you an eclectic boom bap sound brought to you by way of Maryland & California now residing in Bird City. This week’s selection sounds unique from the jump with the classic “boom bap” drum and kick along with a weird reverse chord that sounds very distinctive (I couldn’t figure out what it was). Our feature artist, Jordan G, brings wittiness, creativity, and downright honesty in his latest joint, “STFU”. The hook alone, is raw “just keep it real or otherwise please shut the fuck up”. There are probably a few dozen people any listener would love to direct this hook to.
Phoenix, Arizona, Bird City, the Burning Bird, we’ve brought you a full year of reviews. We brought you 52 different artists, had a couple perfect 10’s, and reviewed some incredible music along the way. This week we bring you more of the same with a dope new song from Charley Brown of the Krown Sound squad. Charley brings a piano bar sound, while speaking real facts on his relationship with an on-again, off-again ex. The song is full of observational lyricism matched with poignant anecdotes about situations that anyone in love has dealt with. The song has a mellow laid-back vibe for riding around the city or drowning your sorrows in a bottle of whiskey.
Bird City, what’s happening?! January is halfway over, but the year has started off with some heaters out of the Arizona Music scene. This week is no different than the week before, with another one deck. This week we’ve got an infectious anthem that embodies overcoming the struggle by yourself. Loyalty Bynum is our feature artist, delivering an inspirational banger with street quality to it with “By Myself”. The sound which is energetic, up-tempo and, auto-tuned with heavy adlibs is simple and radio ready.
What’s good boys and girls, it’s your man Bo, and I’m back to present you with a gem from another talented Phoenix artist. After looking through the interwebs for hot joints, I stumbled about up on Lapre, a dope female emcee, from greater Phoenix Metro area. Lapre brings a soulful, sing-song flow with a slightly auto-tuned backend, that emerges with a very emotional and heartful sound. Lapre speaks on her love life authentically and unapologetically while also displaying versatility and strength. At 1:51, Lapre leaves the singing to the side for a minute and goes off in a verbal assault on her ex, “Feel where I’m coming, don’t play with my mental/ you thought I’d call back, but it wasn’t that simple/ you mad, look what you had/cried through the pain so it wasn’t that sad/.”” The honesty and vulnerability on this song really grabs you by the collar on the very first listen.
